There's something happening literally every day of the week at North Church, but we call Sunday morning "The Best Two Hours of the Week." That's when we gather with hymns and songs of praise, preaching rooted in Scripture, heartfelt prayer, and genuine communion. Worship is the heartbeat of our life as a congregation.
When I graduated from college, my mother
made me an olive green plaid suit. I looked sharp! Until I tripped one day, and tore a hole in the knee. I was dismayed, because I figured it was ruined. To my surprise, I found a place that could repair it by actually reweaving the multi-colored threads from an inside scrap of cloth.
Our faith, and our lives of faith, are in many ways like a piece of cloth, woven together from many threads. And, like cloth, that faith can become frayed or worn or even tear.
The season of Lent gives a chance to re-weave the fabric of our faith - to strengthen it, renew it - by wrapping ourselves in some of the great truths of the faith, highlighted by materials and clothing in the gospels.
The series will be illustrated by a banner that is added to each week, and changing fabrics in the sanctuary highlighting these "fabrics of our faith."
